Wednesday Wins: What I Learned This Week

Spoons, Libraries, and Outlines

Learn The More You Know GIF by @InvestInAccess

In the tech industry, if I’m not practicing a skill or a concept, I’m learning one or the other. This week, I’ll dedicate some time to some of the skills/concepts I stumbled across and hope to incorporate into my experience.

Here’s what I learned this week:

Spoons

It’s not always about how much time you have but more about how much energy is left. While this concept isn’t new to me, I appreciated the post “Spoons” by Quality Boss. Are you measuring your energy?

Testing Library

I have never used the third-party extension “Testing Library” and I have been missing out! Here is the library for Cypress. The full list of frameworks can be found under “Docs” on the left-hand side navigation.

Yarn Workspaces

I’m working to build a mini test suite to demo to the engineering team and a developer and I got into conversations about setup. He suggests using Yarn Workspaces. Do I know what it is? Nope!! Will I tell you more about it when I do? Absolutely!

Product Coverage Outline

Sometimes, I create a practice without knowing that what I’m doing has an official name. I put the question of the practice to my QA folks and they came back with the term Product Coverage Outline. As defined by Lidia, “Basically, it’s the parts of the product that might be affected by the introduced change and which you might wanna test.” 🙌 That’s exactly what I needed. You can read more about this practice. You can read more about this in Prairie Tester’s blog post “Monday: Product Coverage Outlines.”

That’s all for now! What was on your radar this week?

Till next time…
