Quality Reflections: 2024
Throughout the week, I’ll come across posts, podcasts, and videos that pique my interest. Each week, I’ll revisit those resources and share what I find valuable with the team and the QA community. This month, I’m taking time to reflect on some of my favorites. Here’s my top 10 from 2024.

Cypress basics: Variables by Filip Hric - Excellent explanation regarding variables and Cypress’ asynchronous behavior
Flaky Tests by Janet Gregory and Lisa Crispin - "Have one clear purpose for each test, so that if it fails, you know exactly what was being tested."
We all need to become critical testers | Tanja Vos - "If we dive deeper, we experiment, we explore, we ask questions, and we don't take anything for granted, then we get to the bottom of things, and that is testing."
It's All Too Much by Alan Page - “Do the most important thing. Finish it. Then do the next thing. Be transparent about your prioritization and focus on finishing things.”
How to mock an API response using cy.intercept() by Alapan - The right resource on the day I needed it.
Do We Still Need Testers with Katja Obring - "Culture eats strategy for breakfast."
Three optional styles for UI assertions in Cypress by Sam Lawrence - Excellent beginner’s guide on making assertions using Cypress.
The Jurassic Park Problem & Software Development (Part 1) by Lena Pejgan Nyström - “As for technology – all things can likely be exploited and/or twisted into doing harm in some way. So the purely good software likely does not, and will not ever, exist. The best we can strive for might be “Mostly harmless”. But on the other hand: This goes both ways. Even things built to do harm might be bent into something beneficial for the overall society.”
The Testing Planet episode 06: The Apprentice - “Ask stupid questions. If you ask stupid questions, you stay stupid for a few seconds. If you don't ask stupid questions, you stay stupid for a lifetime.”
Unlocking Team Intelligence with Linda Rising - “Having smart people on the team is necessary but not sufficient.”
So many wonderful resources to pick from. This is just a slice of 2024. Hope this shines some light on your path to becoming a critical tester. Here’s to 2025!
Till next time…
